Just like Shasta, this Southern Girl has a few book recommendations for you. Emily also has a video for you--this one will make you smile, especially if you love kids and the elderly.
Read on to learn more about her simple approach to fashion and beauty. We think she was ahead of her time long ago with her matching set outfits.
Where did you grow up?
When did you first fall in love with fashion?
It wasn’t until college when I started to really appreciate fashion. I started reading a few fashion blogs and began looking around at how everyone had unique styles on my campus. I fell in love with the idea of people using fashion to step outside their comfort zones and try different clothing trends that they might not normally, and realizing that they can pull them off! (I’m looking at you camo skinny jeans in my closet).
What is your favorite clothing item you own?
This might reveal a little bit of my inner diva, but my faux fur vest is a current favorite. I’ll have to retire it for spring/summer but I have loved wearing it out this past fall and winter. My friends and I have this joke when you want to "up your outfit” you can just add a fur vest and it’ll make you look instantly put together.
What is your worst fashion mishap/outfit memory?
I distinctly remember times in middle school when I would wear a shirt and bottoms that were the same color and thought I was so cool and great at matching. We’re talking an all pink outfit or an all-orange outfit. The funniest part about this is that this trend is becoming popular now, with the two piece shorts and crop top sets.
What is your favorite Sweetest Stitch item on the site?
What is the sweetest thing you have ever seen?
I have a weakness for little kids and the elderly. I know those are two completely different walks of life but I love how both of these age groups view the world. Interactions with kids and the elderly are always pretty sweet to me. Check out this video of 100 Year Old BFFs.
What is your favorite sweet treat?
If you could tell anything to your high school self, what would it be?
I would tell my high school self that you can’t always please everyone, which is something that I still struggle with today. The most important thing is to be confident, be yourself, and be kind.
What was the last sweet gesture you did for someone else?
I like to send friends or family either a note or a small something in the mail when they’re not expecting it, a just because package or a piece of snail mail. I have a lot of great people in my life that I’m so grateful for and I like to let them know that they’re appreciated.
What was the last great book or article you read?
I’m currently reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin and I’m really enjoying it so far. I’ve heard good things about Me Before You by Jojo Moyes (yes there’s a movie coming out!) so I think that might be next on my list.
What is your favorite beauty secret?
I’m a big believer in less is more when it comes to beauty products, because that seems to work well for me. The best recommendations I can give though are always take your makeup off at night, find a daily face moisturizer that works for you, and drink lots of water!
What is one thing about you that most people don't know?
I am a huge fan of online shopping! To the point where I’ve gotten some of my friends hooked as well. You just can’t beat the free shipping, sales, or the convenience of shopping from home in your pjs.
Now THAT, we can get behind. See Emily rocking some of our Sweetest Stitch new arrivals.
